700 more medical seats next year

Facing the heat after the goof-up in the medical seat allocations,minister for medical education Kondru Murali Mohan tried to buy peace with pro-Telangana leader by claiming that the state would get 700 additional medical seats next year.
He agreed that the MCI acted tough on trivial issues due to which the state had to lose out on some seats in Osmania and Kakatiya medical colleges.However,we are striving hard to get additional seats by requesting the Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to prevail upon the MCI, he said.
He noted that Andhra Pradesh stands top in the country as far as the medical seats numbers are concerned.The minister told reporters that the state has a total of 5,500 seats in all the three regions.
The minister also spoke about strengthening the ambulance ser vice in the state.He said that the state would provide one 108 ambulance to each mandal headquarters from August 15 and 70 new vehicles would be added to the existing fleet.Besides this,a doctor would join each 104 service,which has only paramedical staff now, he said.
And to provide better facilities in agency areas,the government intends to convert 70 jeeps into ambulances,he stated.Also,for villages in Kolleru Lake and Godavari River,cut-off from the mainland,he said the government would arrange boat ambulances.The minister said the medical and health department has procured medicines worth Rs 40 crore to tackle seasonal diseases,snakebites and rabies.
