Exam dates clash worry Andhra Pradesh students

Hyderabad: The scheduling of the AP Eamcet has left students in both Telangana and AP in a fix.

The AP Eamcet is scheduled on the same day, May 10, as the prestigious ComedK engineering entrance exam in Karnataka, which means students from AP will have to choose between the two. But this also means trouble for TS students, as those who want to attempt ComedK exam will not be able to write the AP Eamcet.

The AP State Council of Higher Education had announced that the Eamcet would be held on May 10 this year. Later, the Telangana State Council of Higher Education announced it would hold its own Eamcet four days later, on May 14. Students from both states can attempt the two exams. “We have spaced our Eamcets accordingly and will hold it on May 14 so as to allow students to attempt both the exams. No student, from either state, should be denied the opportunity to write any exam,” said TSCHE chairman Prof. T. Papi Reddy. However, students of both states would miss out on the ComedK entrance exam on May 10 if they opt for the AP Eamcet.

ComedK is a consortium of private engineering colleges in Karnataka and thousands of students from TS and AP attempt the test every year. “Either way students can take only two tests. It is like choosing two states out of the three. But it is tantamount to denying equal opportunity,” said Vemuri Venkatesh, an engineering aspirant.

APSCHE, meanwhile, has said that it can’t change its dates. Prof L. Venugopala Reddy, chairman, APSCHE, said, “It is a private engineering entrance exam and not a government one. We can’t change our dates. If it were a government exam, we would have considered. But they released the notification after us.” ComedK is unlikely to revise its test date as it has already released a notification.
