Hyderabad: Nearly 10,500 aspirants of Group-I posts in the state are facing hardships because of the alleged indifference and indecisive attitude of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC). Expressing anguish at the ‘sorry state of affairs’ in the APPSC, the aspirants urged the state government to direct the authorities concerned to notify the dates for the Mains as any further delay could make them ineligible for the examination. The aspirants said that despite a decision by chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy last month to expedite the recruitment process, there was no response from the APPSC officials. None of the officials were willing to comment saying they were awaiting instructions from the government. One of the aspirants, T Sangeetha, said, “Most of the aspirants are living in rented accommodations in and around Hyderabad and are unable to bear the rising expenses.” The APPSC had notified posts for general recruitment under Group-I services in 2008. However, it took more than 18 months for it to conduct the preliminary exam. Due to obstacles created by some political joint action committees, a few aspirants across Telangana region had failed to appear for the preliminary examination held on September 05, 2010. In order to compensate these affected students, the APPSC held the preliminary examination once again on October 25.
