Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT KGP) had developed a mobile app which can give the user access to 65 lakh books, research papers, journals and periodicals at free of cost. The app is for National Digital Library of India, anybody can download and access the required books with a smartphone instantly.
HRD Ministry who initiated the project, now boasts text books from eight state education boards, NCERT textbooks, previous exam papers of JEE, GATE and UPSC and research papers published from institutes like Indian Institute of Science (IISc), audio-books and more.
As per the reports, P P Chakraborty director of the institution says that mobile usage has grown exponentially from past few years. NDL app will enable the users who are even in the remotest of areas to access the rich digital content of libraries across the country and even foreign repositories.
At present the app is only available for Android users, but the team says that soon there will be version out for Apple products too. It can also be accessed through computers and laptops. The app was launched about a month ago and has been downloaded over 1,00,000 times. Users can search for content using various parameters like subject matter, source, content type and more. Right now, the app is available in three languages - English, Hindi and Bengali.
