NEET UG Toppers’ Tips: ‘Covid inspired me to take MBBS,’ AIR 69 says

NEET UG Toppers' Tips: The NEET topper now in Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, would likely do PG in cardiology after his MBBS gets over. He has not decided anything yet.

NEET UG 2024: Anmol Rawat bagged AIR 69 rank in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2023 by scoring 710 marks out of 720. Rawat is now pursuing his MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College.

The 18-year-old Rawat from Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar scored 94.4 per cent overall marks in CBSE Class 12. While he had an inclination towards the medical stream since Class 8, it was the Covid pandemic which made him decide that he wants to become a doctor.

Speaking to the indianexpress.com, Rawat shares how he prepared for the NEET. Read edited excerpts here:

How did you prepare for NEET UG?

I enrolled for a two-year NEET UG coaching programme (with Allen) after my Class 10. In addition to NCERT books, I also relied on the study materials provided by the coaching centre. For revision in Physics, I also studied DC Pandey. I also strictly followed a timetable that I had chalked down with the help of my teachers, which indeed helped me stay focused and prepare in an organised way.

During my coaching days, I used to practice questions from the topics taught in class every day. For revision, I attempted the previous year questions from each section. However, I did not have fixed schedule for revision.

Was it difficult for you to prepare for CBSE and NEET UG simultaneously?

Preparing for the board exams and NEET UG together was not too difficult because the syllabus for NEET and CBSE exams was similar. In a way, being in a CBSE-affiliated school proved advantageous in taking NEET since NEET questions are somewhat in line with NCERT curriculum, unlike state-board curriculum.

Did you find any question in the NEET question paper that was difficult to answer?

The assertion-reasoning questions in NEET UG 2023’s Chemistry part were confusing and difficult. So, I would suggest that aspirants should practice more of these questions and have a clarity on it. Practicing previous year questions might be a good idea for assertion-reasoning questions.

No, not much. I went to my hometown during Diwali 2022 and participated in all the festivities. While this was my decision, I think each student should take a decision based on their schedule and level of preparedness.

What would you recommend to NEET UG 2024 aspirants?

One big thing that all NEET UG candidates need to remember is to stay consistent as consistency is the key to success. Also, it is important to ensure that students do not deviate from goals.

Additionally, while it may look like you are missing out on something, do not study extra from other sources. Stick to a single source. Make sure you study the modules provided by the coaching institute or your school teachers. One of the main suggestions that a lot of other MBBS students will also agree with is to make sure you re-read your NCERT books and stay thorough with them.

Why did you choose Maulana Azad Medical College?

Maulana Azad Medical College is one of the best institutes in the country. Academics combined with its legacy made me choose Maulana Azad Medical College.
