Supreme Court to hear tech college case on October 20

The Supreme Court has posted the hearing of a case related to allowing some engineering colleges in Telangana to participate in EAMCET counseling and disallowing others to next Monday. A bench comprising Justice S.J. Mukhopadhyay and Justice S.A. Bobde was dealing with the matter. Disqualified engineering colleges had approached the SC seeking directions to the government for conducting second phase of counseling.

The apex court observed that the TS government had adopted a partial approach in disqualifying certain engineering colleges from admitting students through the first phase of EAMCET counseling and sought the eligibility criteria that the government and JNTU had laid down for disqualifying these colleges and also asked the government to submit if qualified colleges had satisfied these conditions. TS government, senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi had said the government had acted in accordance with existing rules and there was no bias against anyone. Appearing on behalf of the consortium of engineering colleges, Mr Gopal Subramaniam argued that JNTU Hyderabad had been granting affiliation to these same colleges since the last 20 years and only this year they had been disqualified purportedly for not having basic facilities.
