Located in Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia, or JMI, is a central university. It was created in 1920 by an Act of the Indian Parliament and is approved by the UGC. Jamia is the word for "university" and Millia is the word for "national" in Urdu.
The NAAC has granted accreditation to Jamia Millia Islamia University with a grade of "A++". NIRF 2023 ranks JMI as the third best university in India and as the 25th best in the management category.
In 1989, Jamia Millia Islamia created the Faculty of Law. An LL.B. program lasting three years was introduced from the beginning. The Faculty's ongoing efforts have resulted in the introduction of a five-year integrated B.A., LL.B (Hons.) Program, which replaced the three-year LL.B. Course, in the academic session 2002–2003. Additionally, the Faculty offers a two-year Post-graduate Programme (LL.M.) with three specialized streams: Personal Laws, Corporate Laws, and Criminal Laws, as well as a Ph.D. program.
