Admissions to the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Kottayam are strictly merit-based and governed by centralized national-level counseling portals. The admission criteria, eligibility, and selection channels vary across its undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral tiers.

Undergraduate Admissions (B.Tech & Integrated B.Tech-MS)

IIIT Kottayam offers four-year B.Tech programs and integrated dual-degree paths across high-demand computing domains, including CSE, AI & Data Science, Cyber Security, and ECE.

  • Primary Entrance Exam: Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main ) conducted by the NTA. 

  • Seat Allocation Body: Unified counseling via the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) and the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) for spot rounds. 

  • Alternative Channel (International Students): Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) for NRIs, PIOs, and foreign nationals based on JEE Main scores.

     

  • Academic Eligibility:

    • Must have cleared the 10+2 (Class 12) or equivalent examination from a recognized board. 

    • Compulsory subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM).

    • Minimum aggregate marks of 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) or being in the top 20 percentile of the respective board.

  • Postgraduate Admissions (M.Tech)

    The M.Tech programs are designed for both fresh graduates and working professionals, prioritizing specialized skills in fields like AI, Data Science, and Cyber Security.

    • Admission Channels:

      1. GATE Route: Candidates with valid GATE scores register through the Centralized Counseling for M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan (CCMT). 

      2. Institute-Level Route: In the absence of a GATE score or for dedicated seats, the institute evaluates applicants through its own written test and a personal interview. 

    • Academic Eligibility:

      • A qualifying B.E./B.Tech degree in a relevant discipline (or an MCA/M.Sc in CS/IT/Mathematics) with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks (or 6.5 CGPA out of 10).

      • For specific industry-sponsored or executive variants, a continuous employment record in tech industry/R&D is typically mandated.
