IIM Shillong - Indian Institute of Management Admissions Details

IIM Shillong - Indian Institute of Management Application/Admission Process

The admission process for the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong is known for being comprehensive, emphasizing not just exam scores but also academic consistency and diversity.

For the 2026–28 batch, the process is divided into two primary phases:

Phase 1: Shortlisting for Personal Interview (PI)

Shortlisting is based on a Composite Score that combines your CAT performance and your academic/professional profile.

Composite Score Calculation

IIM Shillong uses a 65:35 weightage for the initial shortlist:

  • CAT Overall Percentile: 65%

  • Normalized Application Rating Score (NARS): 35%

    • NARS is calculated using scores from Class 10th, 12th, Graduation, and Work Experience.

    • Sweet Spot for Work Experience: The institute favors candidates with 18–30 months of experience (maximum points). Scores begin to decrease for experience over 30 months and drop to zero after 42+ months.

Academic Discipline Diversity

To ensure a diverse classroom, candidates are grouped into Academic Disciplines (e.g., Engineering, Arts, Commerce, Medicine). The institute shortlists a certain percentage from each group, meaning you compete primarily with peers from your own academic background.

Phase 2: Final Selection (Merit List)

Once the Personal Interviews are concluded, a final score is calculated to offer admission.
