IIM Shillong offers several financial aid programs to ensure that students from diverse economic backgrounds can access its management programs. These are broadly categorized into internal institutional aid and external government-funded scholarships.

1. IIM Shillong Need-Based Financial Assistance (NBFA)

This is the institute's primary internal financial aid scheme designed to support students who face financial constraints despite high academic merit.

  • Eligibility: All participants admitted to the PGP (MBA) or PGPEx programs are eligible if their annual gross family income is below ?12,00,000. 

  • Assessment: The NBFA committee evaluates applicants based on:

    • Annual family income and overall assets. 

    • Number of dependents in the family.

    • Academic performance (disciplinary records are also considered).

PhD Research Fellowships

For scholars in the Doctoral Programme in Management (DPM), IIM Shillong provides a comprehensive monthly stipend to cover living and research costs.

  • Monthly Stipend: Approximately ?31,000 for the first two years, increasing to ?35,000 for the remaining years (subject to performance reviews).

  • Contingency Grant: An annual grant (typically ?50,000) for research-related expenses like books, software, or data collection.

  • Conference Support: Financial assistance to attend national and international conferences to present research paper.

Students at IIM Shillong can apply for various central and state government scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)
