Teaching methodology-

Sathyabama Dental College and Hospital uses a mix of classroom teaching, pre-clinical lab work, early clinical exposure and community-based training, aligned with Dental Council of India norms.

  • The BDS curriculum combines basic medical sciences, dental pre-clinical labs and clinical postings, with students introduced to clinics early through hospital postings, community dental camps and satellite clinics to build hands-on skills in diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
  • Departments such as Pharmacology, Oral Medicine & Radiology and clinical specialties emphasize case-based learning, chair-side training, radiographic interpretation, treatment planning and patient-management skills, along with seminars, conferences, guest lectures and CDE programmes to expose students to advanced techniques.
  • The college also encourages self-paced and technology-enhanced learning via online platforms (e.g., SWAYAM-NPTEL and other MOOCs), with sessions conducted by faculty on how to choose and complete such courses, including certification and assessments.

Student–faculty ratio

  • At the university level, Sathyabama’s latest AQAR reports around 15,170 students and 836 teachers, giving an overall institutional student–full-time-teacher ratio of roughly 18:1; the dental school benefits from this broader staffing strength but does not publish a separate exact BDS/MDS ratio.
