Shri Guru Gobind Singhji College of Engineering & Technology Scholarships & Eligibility

Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Institute of Engineering and Technology (SGGSIET), Nanded, established in 1981, is a premier government-aided, autonomous engineering institution in Maharashtra. Functioning with a 100% grant-in-aid structure from the Government of Maharashtra, the institute plays a critical role in facilitating accessible, high-quality technical education across the region.

To fulfill its mission of academic equity and holistic development, SGGSIET coordinates an extensive network of financial aid schemes. These encompass state government allocations, central welfare stipends, corporate concessions, and dedicated institutional or alumni endowments. These resources help reduce educational cost barriers for meritorious students, economically backward classes (EWS), and marginalized communities.

Types of Scholarships and Financial Aid Options

The scholarship framework at SGGSIET Nanded is structured across several distinct operational tracks:

1. Government of Maharashtra State Scholarships

As a state-aided entity, the institute strictly implements the welfare and concession matrices mandated by the Department of Higher and Technical Education and the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra:

  • Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Shikshan Shulkh Shishyavrutti Yojna (EBC Concession): This flagship state scheme serves students admitted through the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) under the General, Open, or Economically Backward Class (EBC) quotas. It provides a 50% tuition fee waiver for eligible students whose annual family income falls within the state-specified limits.

  • Post-Matric Scholarship Matrix: Designed to provide comprehensive institutional access, this scheme provides partial to full tuition fee reimbursements and monthly maintenance allowances. Benefits are systematically distributed based on constitutional categories, including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Vimukta Jati, Denotified Tribes (VJ/DT), and Nomadic Tribes (NT-B, NT-C, NT-D).

  • Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Vasatigruh Nirvah Bhatta Yojna: A dedicated hostel subsistence allowance provided by the state government to support students from small-holding farming families or registered labor households, assisting with off-campus or on-campus accommodation expenses.

2. Central Government and National Portals

SGGSIET is fully integrated with national financial aid systems to support minority and disabled student populations:

  • National Scholarship Portal (NSP) Schemes: Students can avail themselves of various central rewards, such as the Merit-cum-Means Scholarship for Professional and Technical Courses CS (allotted to meritorious students from minority groups including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis, and Jains).

  • AICTE Pragati & Saksham Schemes: Administered directly by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the Pragati Scholarship Scheme provides financial incentives of up to INR 50,000 per year to meritorious female students pursuing technical degrees. Concurrently, the Saksham Scholarship Scheme offers parallel financial support of up to INR 50,000 per year to specially-abled engineering students.

  • Post Graduate (GATE) Scholarships: Full-time master's students (M.Tech) who secure admission with valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores receive regular monthly stipends from the AICTE to assist with postgraduate academic expenses.

3. Institutional, Research, and Alumni Endowments

SGGSIET leverages its global alumni network and research funding to create independent safety nets for its student body:

  • "Sadbhavana Scholarship" Scheme: Sponsored directly by the Alumni Association of SGGSIET Nanded, this endowment targets aspiring engineering students who face unexpected financial crises, assisting them with tuition components.

  • Garje Marathi Global Saksham Project: A targeted social support initiative through which the institution arranges for the donation of free laptops and computational accessories to economically weaker students, bridging the digital access gap.

  • Research and Center of Excellence (CoE) Fellowships: Doctoral (Ph.D.) and full-time research scholars have access to specialized programme scholarships. These are funded by the Ministry of Education's Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP), the Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Scheme of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), and collaborative projects backed by bodies like the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS).

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility requirements are defined by the respective awarding organizations and generally rely on a combination of merit baseline scores and means verification:

  • Academic Performance Thresholds: For state EBC and specialized fee waiver paths, candidates must secure their admission slots through the official MHT-CET or JEE Main centralized counseling rounds. Renewal of annual disbursements requires maintaining regular semester parameters, including a clear academic record with no active backlogs and minimum attendance scores (typically 75%).

  • Family Income Ceiling Limits: * For state EBC (Shahu Maharaj) concessions and AICTE Pragati/Saksham awards, the gross annual family income from all combined sources must typically remain less than or equal to INR 8,00,000 per year.

    • For various post-matric backward-class scholarship tracks, specific differential income limits (ranging from INR 2,50,000 to INR 8,00,000 per year) apply based on whether the student claims a full scholarship or partial free-ship model.

  • Domicile and Cohort Requirements: Applicants seeking state benefits must possess a valid Maharashtra Domicile Certificate. Candidates applying for reserved category scholarships must present standard validation certificates issued by competent state authorities.

Application Process

Applications are processed through centralized digital workflows linked directly with institutional verification cells:

  1. Digital Portal Registration: At the start of the academic year, eligible students must register on the relevant portal: the MahaDBT Portal (mahadbt.maharashtra.gov.in) for state-level schemes, or the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in) for central and AICTE awards.

  2. Document Uploading Pipeline: Applicants must upload digitized, self-attested copies of required validation documents, which include:

    • CAP Allotment Letter and Current Fee Receipt.

    • Previous Qualifying Academic Marksheets (10th, 12th, or Engineering Diploma).

    • Income Certificate issued by a competent authority (Tahsildar) for the relevant financial year.

    • Caste Certificate and Caste Validity Certificate (where applicable).

    • Domicile Certificate and Aadhaar Card linked to a bank account.

  3. Institutional Verification Stage: The SGGSIET Scholarship Desk conducts a primary audit of physical files against digital profiles. Once verified, profiles are forwarded online to regional DTE and social welfare offices for final fund sanctioning.

  4. Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): Sanctioned scholarship components are disbursed directly. The tuition fee portion is credited to the institute's account, while maintenance fees or stipends are transferred to the student's linked bank account.
