All set for Inter practicals

Authorities are leaving no stone unturned to check malpractices in the Intermediate Public Examinations (IPE) 2013. While the practical examinations for general and vocational candidates will be conducted from February 6 to 25,the theory exams will be held from March 6 to 23,officials said on Monday.

A total of 6.67 lakh candidates will take the IPE practical examinations at 2,814 centres across the state and the results are expected to be announced by April 22-25.
Rama Sankar Naik, secretary,Board of Intermediate Education (BIE),said all arrangements have been made for the practical examinations. The BIE has also constituted flying squads for the practical examinations this year. One flying squad will oversee 20 centres in its area.If the BIE gets any hint of students indulging in any malpractice, strict action will be taken against the candidate and he/ she will be debarred for life from writing the IPE, Naik said.

An examination committee with a regional inspection officer as convener will be deployed in every district to oversee smooth conduct of the examinations.
A high-powered committee with the district collector as chairman and superintendent of police or commissioner of police as vice-chairman has already been constituted to prevent question paper leaks. The high-power committee can order re-examination wherever malpractice is established, Naik said.To prevent teachers from aiding students inside the hall, examiners will not be allowed to oversee the process in a college of their choice or the college in which they teach.

The board will also conduct a strict re-verification process for its practical examinations this year.If in any college, over 25% of students score 100% marks in the practical examinations, the answer scripts of these top scorers will be re-evaluated.Answer scripts of the candidates who secure between 27 marks to 30 marks in each of the practical examinations will be re-evaluated.

The number of students appearing for practicals has increased by over 33,000 this year against those of IPE 2012. In the general stream,a total of 2.5 lakh boys and 2.4 lakh girls will appear for the practical examinations. In the vocational stream,a total of 89,739 boys and 76,635 girls will take the exams.Officials said a total of 12,052 examiners will oversee the entire examination process.
