Andhra University?for single valuation of engineering PG

Even as many institutions are converting to double valuation system, Andhra University has recently brought in single valuation system for engineering post graduates which raised many eyebrows in the education sector.

The double valuation system makes evaluation procedure perfect where each answer book will be evaluated independently by two examiners and marks will be awarded on different award lists, without marking on the answer books.

These award lists provided by the examiners will be compared by the chief examiner of the subject and then the final result would be decided, which means, a third valuation is also being done for assessing the student's performance.

If the difference between these two valuations is within the prescribed limits, below 20 per cent, the higher of the two marks will be awarded to the student.

If the difference is more than the prescribed limit, the chief examiner will finalise the marks in consultation with the two examiners. "The double valuation will help in maintaining standards of the institution. Single valuation system would not check errors or mistakes of the examiners. If a poor student gets through the examination by virtue of the system, there will be no chance to re-check the standard of the student," said a retired principal of an engineering college.

Interestingly, many deemed varsities have been following double valuation even for graduation courses in engineering.

KL University adopted double valuation even for graduate level engineering courses to ensure quality.

The JNTU has also adopted double valuation system and now majority of the institutions are following the system.

"The varsity has introduced single valuation system a year ago for releasing results promptly.

There is no question of lack of supervision as there is revaluation facility for students," said Ch.V. Ramachandra Murthy, AU Engineering College principal.
