CBSE Board Exams 2024: List of important chapters in Class 10 PCM

With the right approach, students can transform this academic challenge into a triumph, setting a strong foundation for their future studies and careers

While the CBSE announced that the board examinations will begin in February, here is a complete list of important topics that one can focus on, here is a complete list of important topics that one can focus on.

Mathematics

Mathematics is a game of precision and practice where some chapters hold the key to the treasure trove of marks. Chapters on Real Numbers, Polynomials, and Quadratic Equations are critical, as they form the backbone of higher mathematical concepts. Similarly, understanding Triangles and Coordinate Geometry can make a substantial difference due to their weightage and their application in complex problems. Grasping the fundamentals of Arithmetic Progression and Trigonometry can be the difference between a good score and a great one. Students should not overlook the importance of Surface Areas and Volumes, as well as Statistics and Probability, which are often seen as scoring areas.

Chemistry

Chemistry is often termed the ‘central Science’ because it connects Physics with other natural Sciences, such as Biology and Environmental Science. In the CBSE Class 10 syllabus, Chemical Reactions and Equations, and Acids, Bases, and Salts are the chapters that often carry more marks. Metals and Non-Metals, along with Carbon and its Compounds, come packed with conceptual questions that are scored if understood well. The Periodic Classification of Elements stands as an important chapter for board exams but also sets the stage for future chemistry studies.

Physics

In Class 10, Physics is about understanding the nature of the universe with a practical approach. Light – Reflection and Refraction, and The Human Eye and the Colorful World are chapters replete with diagrams and numerical questions, which if practised well, can boost one’s scores significantly. Electricity and Magnetic Effects of Electric Current are not only high-scoring but are also interesting as they explain phenomena experienced in everyday life. Mastering these can ensure a student stands in good stead during the evaluation.

Strategising with study aids

To capitalise on these chapters, students must integrate study aids into their preparation. Sample papers and previous years’ question papers should be practised diligently to understand the exam pattern and the type of questions that are commonly asked. Mock tests are crucial for improving time management and for getting accustomed to the pressure of the examination environment.

Guides and notes should be used judiciously. While guides provide a curated path through the vast syllabus, personal notes can act as a quick reference and help in last-minute revisions. Video tutorials, particularly for complex concepts in Physics and Chemistry, can offer a different perspective and aid in better comprehension.

Role of consistency and understanding

Consistency in study habits and a deep understanding of concepts is vital. Students should aim to clarify their doubts at the earliest and engage in peer discussions to solidify their understanding. Regular revisions and practising a variety of problems are imperative for retaining concepts and for performing well in exams.

Dealing with the pressure

The pressure to perform can often lead to stress, which is counterproductive. Students should ensure they have a balanced routine, with ample breaks and leisure activities to keep their minds fresh and receptive. A healthy diet, adequate sleep, and physical exercise can also contribute significantly to a student’s overall performance.

As students prepare for the CBSE Class 10 Board exams, focusing on scoring chapters in Physics, Chemistry, and Maths can make a sizable difference in the final outcome. However, it is the amalgamation of strategic planning, consistent practice, and the effective use of study aids that will turn potential into excellence.
