CBSE Class XII math paper stumps students

Students who appeared for CBSE Class XII maths exam on Wednesday found the papers very difficult and too lengthy. They also claim the paper deviated from the 'model papers' supplied by the Board. Meritorious students who were expecting 80 per cent to 90 per cent marks in maths prior to the exam, are now worried that they may not get more than 50 per cent, while average students fear that they may fail in the subject This year, Class XII marks are important with 40 per cent weightage being given in JEE (Main) for admission to NITs, IIITs and other central-funded technical institutions.

Moreover, these marks also determine their prospects of appearing for JEE (Advanced) for admission to IITs. "Only questions carrying one mark were as per the model papers supplied by the Board. Those questions carrying four marks were totally in deviation of model papers. Majority of the students have not even attempted half of the 10 questions of four marks each. All the questions were too lengthy. Most of the time was taken to read the questions and understand them, leaving less time to attempt those questions. I expected 80 per cent marks in Maths but I fear whether I will get at least 50 per cent marks now," said P.Neelima, a Class XII student who appeared for the exam. Teachers were also surprised to see question paper. "I have never seen such a question paper. Students with extraordinary skills only can secure above 80 per cent marks," said P.Madhuri Rao, a CBSE maths teacher.
