CBSE lowers cutoff for JEE (Advanced) to 105, grants grace marks for two errors

New Delhi: The cut-off score to sit for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Advanced) for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology is 105 out of 360 this year for students in the general category, down from the 115 last year.
This was based on the performance of the top 1.5 lakh candidates eligible to appear for the advanced test. Gender divide for engineering studies continues to be stark as 73.75% aspirants are boys and the results reflect a similar pattern as 81.55% of those who have qualified for the JEE-Advanced are boys.

The result for the JEE (Mains) conducted by the CBSE were declared on Monday, where the Board officials said that grace marks for the two errors reported in the offline exam has been granted to the candidates. The JEE (Main) decides entry into the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other institutes. The exam is also the first screening test for IIT aspirants.

This year, a total of 12, 92,711 aspirants registered for the exam of which 1, 52,401 have qualified for the JEE (Advanced) based on the cut-off declared. While for the general category the cut-off is 105, the cut-off in OBC category is 70 and for SC and ST it is 50 and 44 respectively. The exam was conducted in dual mode?11, 05,021 candidates opted for the offline exams while the rest opted for the online exam. In all 1, 24,297 boys and 28,104 girls have qualified for the JEE-Advanced.

Post exams - April 4, 2015 for offline and April 10 and 11 for online, parents and coaching institutes had pointed out a number of errors in the answer keys of the exam for the offline version. There was also confusion regarding the issue of grace marks, if given, for the errors.

Clarifying the issue, Satbir Bedi, officiating chairperson of CBSE, said: "There were two questions of different papers where there were some problems and the expert committee of the Board looked into the matter and resolved it. Student's interest was protected and accordingly
