CBSE`s teacher eligibility test riddled with errors

NewDelhi: The recently conducted Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) was beset by errors.
According to sources in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) over 10 OMR sheets from Delhi region have gone missing while in the Marathi paper, set 'D' had a incomplete reading passage. Serial numbers of some OMR sheets also allegedly did not match those of the question paper.

While the Board admitted of the printing error in the Marathi language paper and said that suitable compensation will be given to the affected, it didn't replied on the issue of missing OMR sheets. Unlike past practices the answer keys were prepared post exam and not along with the question papers which were then uploaded almost a month after the exams got over, sources said. CTET was conducted at 988 centres in 100 cities where 7.4 lakh candidates were registered.

The Marathi Language Supplement paper had a reading passage of over 300 words based on which the candidates were expected to answer nine questions. In set 'D' of the paper the passage had just 60 words of the passage leaving students in a limbo.

To which in an email reply, the Board said, "There was a printing error in some of the test booklets. Immediate action was taken on February 22, 2015, i.e. the date of examination. But while finalizing the result, a suitable compensation will be given to the affected candidates who were administered Set-D in the entire country."

Some candidates during the exam found that the serial number provided in the OMR sheet does not matched with that of the question paper provided. "I reported the matter at the centre as well as to the CBSE about this anomaly. This could jeopardize my result in case the OMR sheet I got is not for the question set I got. I hope CBSE will look into this and address the issue," said a candidate on condition of anonymity.

According to highly placed CBSE sources, over 10 OMR sheets from the Delhi region are reportedly missing. Moreover the answer keys which used to be ready along with the question paper were not this time. "Post exams the paper setters were asked to prepare the keys which compromised the secrecy. This allows the question setters the knowledge that their questions were selected and some of the answers are subjective and retrospective preparation of the keys raises questions," said a senior official of CBSE. The Board said, "Answer keys of CTET are top secret operations and developed only after the examination is over. The work of verification and compilation of answer key by subject experts in confidential room was completed and was uploaded for candidates on March 19 along with images also mentioned in the public notice no procedure has been compromised."
