Inter exam rider for engineering, medical aspirants

They will not be eligible for the first phase of engineering and medical admissions even if they secure top ranks in EAMCET

Students who fail to clear Intermediate annual examinations in the first attempt will not be eligible for the first phase of engineering and medical admissions even if they secure top ranks in EAMCET.

Those who fail and take the advanced supplementary examinations to clear the backlogs will have to try for the leftover seats in the second phase of counselling. The decision has been taken by the authorities in view of the AICTE fixing deadline for releasing the entrance exam results and the admissions.

As per the AICTE deadline, entrance test results have to be released before June 5 and the first round of the counselling must be completed before June 30 and the final phase by July 20 and list of admitted students has to be uploaded on AICTE website before July 30. The new norm also says that the 2013 academic year must begin on August 1.

Till now, the government was announcing the EAMCET ranks taking into consideration the advanced supplementary results, which were invariably released in June end or July first week. In 2012, the supplementary results were released in June end though the EAMCET was conducted on May 12. EAMCET ranks cannot be announced independently since weightage of 25 per cent of Intermediate marks is considered for calculating the final rank.

AICTE norms

Last year, authorities decided to consider the annual marks only but were forced to consider supplementary results due to the Physics paper controversy. "This year there is no other option but to consider annual exams marks only due to AICTE norms," says the APSCHE Chairman P. Jayaprakash Rao. The AICTE norms are apparently based on a Supreme Court directive and they cannot be altered under any circumstances.

Similar guidelines were issued for the medical admissions by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and as per MCI directive medical admission process should not exceed September 30 and admissions made after that are not approved. Officials feel the new norms will help them to streamline the engineering admission process and more so, set right the Intermediate examination system as well. They feel considering supplementary results for final ranking itself was illogical, but they were succumbing to the pressure of political parties and student organisations.
