Intermediate improvement norms

HYDERABAD: The norms for appearing for improvement of subjects in the Intermediate are different for first year and second year students. The news item published in The Hindu on Tuesday pertained only to first year students.

First year students who have passed all the subjects can appear for one or more papers for improvement. The better of the marks will be taken in each of the subjects. For example if students passed in the main examinations and fail in the improvement examination, the passed marks will be taken into consideration.

Students who have failed in one or two subjects and passed in the remaining papers can apply only for the supplementary examinations. But if they want to write for securing better marks in the passed subject they can do so but will forego the previous marks obtained in the main examination. For example if students fail in the supplementary examinations in the subject in which they passed in the main examinations, they will be treated as a failed candidates only.

For second year students there is no provision for improvement of single subject. They have to write all the second year papers including practical examinations wherever applicable if they want to improve their performance in any of the subjects. If they fail in any of the subject in the improvement examination his previous performance will hold good. If they pass in all the subjects in the improvement examinations they will have the option to retain the marks of either the main examination or the supplementary examination. They can't choose some subjects from main examination and some from supplementary examination. They have to take the entire set of marks of main exam or supplementary.
