The Government Arts College was started as a District school in 1853 and was upgraded as a Provincial school of Madras Presidency in 1868. It was made a college in 1885. It was affiliated to University of Madras in 1891 and later to Andhra University in 1926. The college offers undergraduates and postgraduate programmes in arts and science affiliated to the Adikavi Nannaya University. It has been accredited by NAAC with an A+ Grade (CGPA 3.38) Government College (Autonomous), Rajahmundry is a very popular college in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Government College (Autonomous), Rajahmundry was established in 1853. It is one of the leading college in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Business Finance and Commerce, Computer Science, Management Studies, Science and Mathematics and Vocational Studies. It is located in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. More than 42 courses are taught in this institution. Under the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, there are a total of 7 courses. For Under Graduate studies, B.A. (Hons.) (Economics) is the only course taught. Under the Post Graduate studies, 5 courses are taught which are B.A. - M.A. (Public Policy) (Integrated), M.A. (Telugu), M.A. (Economics), M.A. (Political Science) and many more. For Doctoral studies, Ph.D. (Telugu) is the only course taught.

Our college is A very good college with best infrastructure and best teaching and non teaching staff and Good laboratories and a big play ground with Running track along with helipad And with two canteens. It is located in a very spacious area behind the central prison and behind of the college there is aurban square which was recently opened
