GATE 2027 is an entrance exam for post-graduation in engineering admission for the academic year 2027-2027. Students who are going to apply for GATE 2027 must first check the eligibility criteria for GATE 2027. If the GATE authority finds that the candidate is not eligible after payment of the application fee, then his/her application will be rejected. No fee refund will be issued. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 is the national-level entrance examination that provides a gateway for postgraduate studies (M.E., M.Tech., Ph.D.) and recruitment in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). Understanding the eligibility criteria is a fundamental step for all aspirants planning to appear for the 2027 cycle.

GATE 2027 maintains highly inclusive eligibility norms, welcoming candidates from diverse educational backgrounds. The examination is open to Indian nationals and candidates from select international countries, with no age or attempt restrictions.

Key GATE 2027 Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational Qualifications

Candidates must have completed or be currently enrolled in the 3rd year or higher of an undergraduate degree program in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, or Arts.

  • Undergraduate Candidates: Students in the 3rd year or higher of a 4-year degree (B.E., B.Tech., B.Pharm., B.Sc. Research) or 5-year degree (B.Arch.) are eligible.
  • Postgraduate Candidates: Students in the first year or higher of M.Sc., M.A., or MCA programs, or those who have completed these degrees, are eligible.
  • Integrated & Dual Degrees: Eligibility varies based on program duration, generally starting from the 3rd or 4th year.
  • Professional Society Examinations: Candidates who have completed Section A or Part I of recognized professional society exams (e.g., AMIE, AMICE) are eligible.

2. Nationality Criteria

  • Indian Nationals: Fully eligible.
  • International Candidates: Nationals from Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the UAE are eligible to apply and may appear at designated international centers.

3. No Age Limit or Attempt Restriction

  • Age Limit: There is no minimum or maximum age limit to appear for GATE 2027.
  • Attempts: There is no restriction on the number of attempts; candidates may appear as often as they wish.

4. Minimum Marks and Backlogs

  • GATE 2027 does not mandate a minimum percentage in the qualifying degree.
  • Candidates with active backlogs may apply, but they must satisfy all academic requirements before seeking formal admission or PSU recruitment.

Ans. Yes, since IIT Madras is the organizing institute for 2027, all candidates must register fresh on the new portal (gate.iitm.ac.in).
