TNTET 2026 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

TNTET 2026 eligibility criteria are set by the Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) and differ for Paper 1 (Classes 1–5) and Paper 2 (Classes 6–8). Candidates who are planning to appear for the exam must have the following TNTET eligibility criteria.

Age Limit

  • Minimum age: 18 years.
  • No upper age limit; age relaxation is provided for reserved categories as per Tamil Nadu government norms.

Educational Qualification

For Paper 1 (Classes 1–5)

  • Passed Higher Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/BC/MBC/PwD categories) and completed or appearing in the final year of:
    • 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.).
    • 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
    • 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education), recognized by NCTE.
  • Graduates who have completed or are appearing in the final year of a 2-year D.El.Ed. are also eligible.

For Paper 2 (Classes 6–8)

  • Graduation (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com.) with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/BC/MBC/PwD categories) and completed or appearing in the final year of:
    • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).
    • 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • Graduates with 50% marks who have completed or are appearing in the final year of a 4-year B.El.Ed. are eligible.
  • Graduates with 50% marks who have completed or are appearing in the final year of B.Ed. (Special Education), recognized by NCTE, are eligible.
  • Any candidate with a B.Ed. degree recognized by the NCTE is eligible for Paper 2.

Nationality and Domicile

  • Must be an Indian citizen and a resident of Tamil Nadu.

Other Criteria

  • No prior teaching experience is required, but mandatory training is provided after appointment.
  • Final year students of D.El.Ed. or B.Ed. are eligible to apply.
  • There is no restriction on the number of attempts for TNTET.

Marks Relaxation

  • 5% marks relaxation for SC, ST, BC, MBC, and PwD candidates in both educational qualifications and age limits.

Ans. Yes, SC, ST, BC, MBC, and PwD candidates get a 5% relaxation in the minimum marks required for eligibility.
