The National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) is not a college or university itself, but rather the apex national-level regulatory body governing hospitality education in India. Established in 1982 by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, it functions as an autonomous society.

Role and Recognition

  • Regulatory Status: NCHMCT oversees and standardizes the curriculum, academic policies, and training standards across a wide network of affiliated Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs) and Food Craft Institutes (FCIs) throughout the country.

  • Affiliations: It currently regulates over 90 institutions, including Central Government-sponsored, State Government-sponsored, and select private Institutes of Hotel Management.

  • Academic Recognition: The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Hospitality & Hotel Administration and the Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Hospitality Administration programs offered through its affiliated institutes are conducted in collaboration with, and recognized by, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.

Rankings and Industry Standing

  • Institutional Rankings: While NCHMCT is the governing body, the individual institutes under its umbrella (the IHMs) are frequently ranked in national surveys.
