Thakur Institute of Management Studies Career Development and Research Application/Admission Process

The Thakur Institute of Management Studies, Career Development & Research (TIMSCDR) conducts its admission process primarily through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) overseen by the State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell of Maharashtra.Because TIMSCDR is an autonomous institution and a linguistic minority (Hindi) institute, its process follows state guidelines closely.

  1. Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) program, you must generally meet the following requirements:

  • Educational Qualification: A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline (BCA, B.Sc. IT/CS, B.E., B.Tech, B.Com, B.A., etc.) with at least 50% marks in aggregate (45% for Reserved categories, EWS, and PwD candidates from Maharashtra).
  • Mathematics Requirement: You should preferably have studied Mathematics at the 10+2 level or during your graduation.
  • Entrance Exam: A non-zero positive score in the MAH-MCA-CET is mandatory for candidates seeking admission through the CAP rounds.
  1. Admission Procedure (Step-by-Step)
  1. Entrance Examination: Candidates must register for and appear in the MAH-MCA-CET conducted by the State CET Cell.
  2. CAP Registration: After the CET results are declared, you must register on the official State CET Cell portal.
  3. Document Scrutiny: Upload your academic documents and certificates on the portal for either E-Scrutiny or Physical Scrutiny at a designated Facilitation Centre (FC).
  4. Choice Filling (Option Form): During the CAP rounds, you must fill out an option form and select TIMSCDR as one of your preferred institutes.
  5. Seat Allotment: Seats are allotted based on your merit rank in the CET, category, and seat availability.
  6. Reporting & Admission: If allotted a seat, you must report to the campus physically, verify your original documents, and pay the seat acceptance/academic fees to confirm your admission.
  1. Quota-Based Admissions

TIMSCDR operates under a specific quota system:

  • CAP Seats: Majority of the seats are filled via the state-level Centralized Admission Process.
  • Hindi Linguistic Minority Quota: As a Hindi Linguistic Minority institution, a significant percentage of seats (usually 51%) are reserved for candidates belonging to this community.
  • Institute Level Seats: A portion of seats (usually 20%) is filled directly by the institute, though candidates must still meet the eligibility and entrance exam requirements.

Required Documents

When you report to the institute, you will generally need to provide:

  • MAH-MCA-CET Scorecard
  • SSC (10th) and HSC (12th) Marksheets
  • Graduation Marksheets and Degree Certificate
  • Nationality/Domicile Certificate
  • Caste Certificate, Validity, and Non-Creamy Layer Certificate (if applicable)
  • Migration/Transfer Certificate (if graduating from a university other than Mumbai University)
  • Gap Certificate (if there was a break in your education)
