Hall tickets spell horror for JEE students

Students who applied for the first-ever JEE (Main) being conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have found to their horror that erroneous admit cards have been uploaded by the board on its Website. The Board had asked students to directly download admit cards from the website http://www.jeemainnic.in to appear for the exam in offline mode on April 7, and for online mode from April 8 to 30.

While some admit cards had errors in the spelling of the student's names, others have wrong photographs. In some cases, the photographs of girls were uploaded on the admit cards of boys and viceversa. Students are worried that they may be denied entry into the exam centres if the photograph on the admit card does not match. Not only this, there is incomplete information with regard to the location of centres where the written exam is to be given.

Nearly 1 lakh students from Andhra Pradesh have registered for JEE (Main) this year, out of a total of 12.8 lakh who applied across the country for admission to NITs, IIITs and other reputed centralfunded institutions. It is mandatory for students to appear for JEE (Main) to compete for seats in IITs as only top-1,50,000 rankers in JEE (Main) will be allowed to appear for JEE (Advanced) for gaining eligibility to IITs.

Officials said that one out of every 10 students who applied for JEE (Main) has received an erroneous admit card. Though the CBSE has provided helpline numbers and e-mail facility for help in case of any problem, students complain that their mails and phone calls remain unanswered. The CBSE has asked students to bring the errors in the admit cards to its notice by March 25 by sending an e-mail to jeemain@nic.in or by calling helpline Phone No. 8506061071 to 78 between 10 am and 5.30 pm on all working days.
