GMAT 2026 FAQs
Q1. Is there an essay section in the GMAT 2026?
Ans. No, the Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA), or essay section, has been removed from the current GMAT Focus Edition.
Q2. How long are GMAT scores valid?
Ans. GMAT scores are valid for five years from the date you took the exam.
Q3. Can I take the GMAT 2026 from home?
Ans. Yes, the GMAT is available in both a test center-based format and a remote-proctored (online) format. The online version is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, though it requires specific technical equipment and a private, secure workspace.
Q4. Is there a penalty for wrong answers on the GMAT?
Ans. There is no "negative marking" (deduction of points) for incorrect answers on the GMAT. However, because the test is computer-adaptive, your performance on previous questions dictates the difficulty of subsequent ones. While wrong answers do not carry a direct penalty, leaving questions unanswered at the end of a section results in a substantial score reduction, so it is always better to provide an answer.
Q5. How many times can I take the GMAT?
Ans. You may take the GMAT exam up to 5 times within a rolling 12-month period and a maximum of 8 times in your lifetime. There is a mandatory 16-day waiting period between exam attempts.
