The NBEMS has updated the NEET PG Eligibility Criteria for 2026. It is advised that students thoroughly review the eligibility requirements before filling the application. The NEET PG 2026 eligibility criteria require candidates to have completed an MBBS degree or hold a provisional MBBS pass certificate from an institution recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) or Medical Council of India (MCI). They must have completed the compulsory rotatory internship or be likely to complete it on or before July 31, 2026, to be eligible. Candidates should also have permanent or provisional registration with the NMC, MCI, or the respective State Medical Council at the time of applying and appearing for the examination.

There is no age limit or restriction on the number of attempts for appearing in NEET PG 2026. Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) must qualify the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), complete their internship by the specified date, and hold registration with the Indian Medical Council or the relevant State Medical Council. Foreign nationals must have qualifications recognized in their home country and obtain temporary registration with the NMC or MCI upon admission to postgraduate courses in India.

Detailed Eligibility Criteria for NEET PG 2026

Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess an MBBS degree or a provisional MBBS pass certificate from a medical institution recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the former Medical Council of India (MCI).

Internship Requirement: Candidates must have completed or be completing a one-year compulsory rotatory internship by July 31, 2026 (some sources mention June 30, 2026; always check the official notification for exact deadlines).

Registration: Applicants must have a provisional or permanent registration certificate issued by the NMC or a State Medical Council (SMC).

Nationality: Both Indian citizens and foreign nationals are eligible. Foreign medical graduates must have passed the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) and obtained registration with NMC/SMC.

Age Limit: There is no upper or lower age limit for NEET PG 2026.

Minimum Marks: General category candidates must typically secure at least 50% aggregate marks in MBBS; reserved categories may have relaxed criteria.

Regulations for Foreign Nationals' Eligibility

  • The MCI temporary registration certificate is no longer required for international applicants to take the NEET PG Exams.
  • In order to enroll in the P.G. course, candidates must have the MCI temporary registration certificate.

Candidates Not Eligible

The following are the circumstances under which a candidate may be deemed ineligible to take the NEET PG 2026 entrance exams.

  • Under the Indian Medical Council Act of 1956, if his or her M.B.B.S. certificate is not accepted.
  • Candidates who, in accordance with the rules established by the authorities, have not finished their rotating internship.
  • If any applicant is determined to be ineligible in light of any of the previously stated rules.
