NEET PG 2026 (COUNSELLING)

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduates (NEET PG) is the single, highly competitive national-level entrance examination for securing admission to Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS), PG Diploma, and DNB Broad Specialty courses across all government, private, central, and deemed medical universities in India. Administered by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), the NEET PG 2026 examination is scheduled to be conducted in a single session on August 30, 2026. With results slated for publication on or before September 30, 2026, the centralized counselling process will immediately follow to allocate postgraduate seats purely based on NEET rank and candidate preferences.

NEET PG 2026 Tentative Counselling Schedule

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) manages the 50% All India Quota (AIQ), Central, and Deemed University seats on mcc.nic.in. Respective State Counselling Authorities conduct parallel rounds for the remaining 50% State Quota seats.

Step-by-Step Counselling Process

1.Online Registration: mcc.nic.in.

Log onto the official MCC portal during the active registration window. Register using your NEET PG 2026 Roll Number, Application Number, Name, and Date of Birth to create secure candidate login credentials.

2.Payment of Counselling Fee: Non-Refundable + Security Deposit.

Settle both the non-refundable registration fee and the refundable security deposit online via Net Banking, Debit, or Credit Card. Your choice-filling dashboard activates only after payment confirmation.

3.Choice Filling & Locking: Rank-Based Strategy.L

og into your dashboard, view the live seat matrix, and add colleges/specialties (e.g., General Medicine, Radiodiagnosis, General Surgery) in your preferred priority order. Lock your choices before the deadline, or they will auto-lock.

4.Seat Allotment Distribution: Download Allotment Letter.

The MCC processes your selection list based on your NEET PG All India Rank (AIR), category reservations, and choice priority. Seat allotment results are posted online in PDF format.

5.Reporting & Admission Confirmation: Physical Verification.

If satisfied with the allotment, report physically to the assigned medical college with your original academic/professional documents. Undergo physical verification, pay the institutional admission fee, and secure your PG seat.

Required Documents for Verification

Candidates must upload scanned PDFs during registration and carry the original hard copies along with self-attested photocopies during physical reporting:

  • MBBS Degree Certificate or Provisional Pass Certificate
  • All Professional MBBS Semester Marksheets
  • Compulsory Rotatory Internship Completion Certificate (with completion date on or before the official cutoff)
  • Permanent or Provisional Registration Certificate issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC) or a State Medical Council
  • Class 10 Certificate or School Leaving Certificate (as age proof)
  • Valid Government-issued Photo ID (Aadhaar, Passport, PAN Card, or DL)
  • Eight passport-sized photographs (identical to the one uploaded on the NEET PG application)
  • Category/Caste Certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwD), if applicable.

Counselling Fees & Security Deposits

Participating candidates must pay a two-part fee. The security deposit is refundable if no college is allotted or if you join the designated seat under compliant conditions.

NEET PG Counselling FAQs-

Q1. What is the "Free Exit" rule in NEET PG, and does it apply to all rounds?

Ans: The "Free Exit" option applies only to Round 1. If you are allotted a PG seat in Round 1 and choose not to join or report to the college, you can exit the round without any penalty. Your refundable security deposit remains completely safe, and you can participate in Round 2 directly. No free exit is allowed in Round 2 or subsequent rounds. 

Q2. What happens to my security deposit if I do not join an allotted seat in Round 2?

Ans: If you are allotted a seat in Round 2 but choose not to join, your refundable security deposit will be forfeited (permanently lost). However, you can still participate in Round 3 (Mop-Up) by registering again and paying the registration fee and security deposit all over again. 

Q3. Can I upgrade my seat from Round 1 to Round 2?

Ans: Yes. To opt for upgradation, you must first physically report to your Round 1 allotted college, complete the admission formalities, pay the fee, and explicitly submit an online willingness for upgradation to Round 2. If you are successfully upgraded in Round 2, your older Round 1 seat is automatically cancelled and passed to another candidate. 

Q4. I registered for 50% AIQ seats. Am I automatically registered for State Quota seats?

Ans: No. MCC handles only the 50% All India Quota, Central, and Deemed University seats. To apply for the 50% State Quota seats in your state of domicile, you must register separately on your respective State Medical Counselling Authority's website (such as DME, KEA, or CET) and follow their specific schedules. 

Q5. Who is eligible to participate in the Stray Vacancy Round?

Ans: The Stray Vacancy Round is the final phase to fill remaining vacant seats. Only candidates who do not hold any seat in previous rounds (Round 1, Round 2, or Round 3/Mop-Up) of AIQ or State Quota are eligible to participate. If you have already secured or joined a seat anywhere, you are strictly barred from the Stray Vacancy Round.
