Student life in university is much more than lectures and examinations. It is a journey of self-growth and self-discovery, where students lay the foundation for an ever-brighter tomorrow. A good mix between academic and everyday life teaches students not only academic concepts but also skills that are crucial to thriving in the adult world. Hence, extracurriculars become an important link in the equation.
Research conducted by the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) shows that the more a student engages in co-curricular and extracurricular activities, the better his/her academic performance is likely to be, and the more satisfied he/she is with the entire college experience. Universities, therefore, are now concerned with the holistic development of their students; students are being equally molded into bright minds and people with good communication skills, leadership qualities, creativity, and great team spirit.
At Chandigarh University, this philosophy runs deep. Here lies a lively and vibrant environment where students are constantly motivated to pursue their interests in festivity, innovation and technology clubs, major social programs, and sports. The university truly believes that learning happens beyond the confines of the classroom.
Dance, Drama, Dhol—Culture at It’s Best
From music and dance to theatre and fine arts, the university celebrates culture in every form. Chandigarh University has various cultural clubs that allow students to express themselves creatively. Events like CU Fest, Jhankaar, and Abhivyakti are big platforms where students show their talents.
If you love coding, robotics, engineering, or anything tech-related, then Chandigarh University has many clubs focused on technology and innovation.
Language and communication are very important skills. CU helps students polish their English and public speaking through various clubs:
Chandigarh University offers excellent sports facilities and promotes a healthy lifestyle.
The university is home to students from different countries. To support this diversity there are clubs like:
Chandigarh University believes in turning ideas into startups.
Chandigarh University hosts a variety of department-specific clubs designed to cater to different streams and departments:
Joining clubs at Chandigarh University is simple and exciting. At the start of every academic year, the university hosts a Club Orientation Fair where students can interact with various club members and choose the ones that match their interests. There’s complete freedom to join more than one club, and students can even propose a new club if they have a unique idea. Every club is jointly managed by faculty and students, ensuring both guidance and independence. To maintain structure, each club must have two student representatives, a minimum of 20 student registrations. First-year students must register through a dedicated Google Form shared during the drive, while students from the second year onward must register via the CUINTRANET portal.
The Department of Student Welfare (DSW) is a student care and supervision centre that serves as a liaison between students and administration. DSW closely works with students across all years and all societies to explore ways to enhance the experience, from education to student life to career planning, and works with them to develop innovative solutions to issues and concerns.
The Department of Student Welfare has professionally trained staff to help you through the unanticipated problems that sometimes come your way. The main purpose behind setting up such service centres is to contribute towards the development of an academic environment that promotes productive learning and academic success while abolishing the stressful and challenging situations that could arise for one or another reason.
Chandigarh University is more than just an academic institute; it is a complete world filled with fun, knowledge, and growth. With so many extracurriculars and clubs, every student gets the opportunity to explore, express, and excel. Whether you are a techie nerd, an artist, athlete, or a leader, CU will have a space for you. So, once you choose CU, you choose a lot more than education; you choose a life packed with opportunities.
