IIT JAM 2020 (Joint Admission Test for M.Sc.) is a National level Entrance Exam, a gateway for the students to get the admission into programmes at the IITs and Integrated PhD Degree Programmes at IISc for consolidating Science as a career option for bright students. IITs offer programmes like M.Sc. (Four Semesters), Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree, etc, for merit scorers of IIT JAM. IITs of Bombay, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Indore, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Gandhinagar, Madras, Ropar and Roorkee use IIT JAM score for intakes into their PG programs. IITs and IISc conduct IIT JAM every year on a rotational basis. IIT JAM 2020 is conducted by  IIT Khanpur. JAM 2020 Examination is a Computer Based ONLINE Examination and It will be held on 09 February 2020 (Sunday).

IIT JAM 2020 Application Form

Candidates who are eligible can fill the IIT JAM application form 2020 through online mode. The details of the application form are mentioned below:

  • The application form can be submitted online, through the IIT JAM 2020 official website.
  • The application process will be open from 5th September 2019.
  • Candidates have to fill their personal, qualification & other details in the application form
  • After making fee payment, submit the application form before checking all entries carefully.
  • The last date to fill the application form along with uploading the documents will be 10th October 2019

Application Procedure

  • Candidate visits the official website of JAM Online Application Processing System at http://jam.iitkgp.ac.in/.
  • Register yourself at the IIT JAM website by providing your name, email address, valid mobile number and create a password.
  • Now login to JAM 2020 application processing website and fill in the information, such as your parent/guardian's name and mobile number, choice of the city, and choice of test paper(s) that you wish to appear, date of birth, gender, the address for communication, category and PwD status.
  • Upload a scanned copy of your photograph, signature, and SC / ST / PwD certificate (if applicable)
  • Pay the IIT JAM application fee and submit.

IIT JAM 2020 Eligibility

  1. Both Indian and foreign nationals are eligible for the IIT JAM examination.
  2. To appear for the IIT JAM examination, candidates must clear their bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution to satisfy the eligibility criteria for IIT JAM.
  3. Candidates who are appearing for the final year of their graduation are also eligible to apply for the IIT JAM examination.
  4. Candidates who have done graduation from distance learning courses are also eligible for the IIT JAM examination.
  5. General and OBC category students must obtain at least 55 per cent marks in their graduation.
  6. Students from reserved category must obtain at least 50 per cent marks in their graduation to satisfy the eligibility criteria to appear for the IIT JAM examination.

IIT JAM 2020 Exam Pattern

  1. The JAM test consists of a total of seven papers and the candidate has to appear in one or two papers only.
  2. If a candidate wishes to apply for the second paper then he has to pay an additional fee.
  3. Candidates who want to appear in two tests must check whether the dates of these two examinations are clashing.
  4. For each of the papers given in the next section, the candidate will be given three hours.
  5. IIT JAM 2020 examination will be conducted in seven subjects, also referred to as Test Papers, of Biological Sciences (BL), Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Mathematics (MA), Geology (GG), Mathematical Statistics (MS) and Physics (PH).

IIT JAM 2020 Syllabus

Physics (PH): Simple Oscillators, Solid state physics, devices and electronics, Modern physics, Kinetic theory, Thermodynamics, Electricity and Magnetism, Oscillations, Waves and Optics, Mechanics and General Properties of Matter, Mathematical Methods

Chemistry (CY): Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry

Mathematics (MA): Real Analysis, Linear Algebra, Group Theory, Vector Calculus, Differential Equations, Functions of Two Real Variables, Sequences and series of real numbers

Mathematical Statistics (MS):

This paper is divided into two parts: Statistics with 60 per cent weightage and Mathematics with 40 per cent weightage.

Statistics- Testing of Hypotheses, Estimation, Sampling distribution, Joint distribution, Standard distributions, Random variables, Probability.

Mathematics- Differential Equations, Matrices, Integral Calculus, Differential Calculus, Sequences and Series.

Biological Sciences (BL): Mathematical Sciences, General Biology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Basics of Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology

Geology: Applied Geology, Economic Geology, Petrology, Mineralogy, Stratigraphy, Palaeontology, Structural Geology, Geomorphology, The Planet Earth

IIT JAM 2020 Results

IIT JAM 2020 result will be announced in the month of March 2020. Candidates will have to check the results online. On the basis of the results, merit lists will be prepared for general, SC/ST, PHD categories separately.

IIT JAM 2020 Counselling

IIT JAM 2020 Results will be declared on March 20, 2020. The merit list will be prepared on the basis of AIR secured by the candidates in IIT JAM 2020.

  • Candidates whose name appear in the merit list will be qualified for the IIT JAM counselling 2020.
  • Only the qualified candidates can apply for academic programmes in IISc Bangalore and IITs.
  • Candidates have to fill an Online Application Form for Admission so that they can apply to the institutes for the admission.
  • Admission forms will be available on the JAM 2020 website.
  • The admission process will start from June 2, 2020, and will end on July 3, 2020.
  • The admission process will be ONLINE only.

IIT JAM 2020 Preparation Tips

Prepare in advance

If you are planning to take IIT JAM, it is necessary for you to schedule your preparation little early as the JAM exam takes more or less 4-5 hours of study in a day. Since JAM exam syllabus is based on graduation syllabus you can prepare easily along with your academics.

Follow the syllabus

The syllabus for the exam is announced by the organising institute in advance. Thus, it is mandatory to go through with each and every topic in order to excel in the exam.

Solving old and mock question papers will sure lead you on the road to success. Referring and solving old question papers also give an insight into the pattern of questions that can be expected in the exam. JAM question papers are available in the bookstore and online as well.

Various books on IIT JAM are available in the market and also online.  Referring to them while you are preparing will have an added advantage.

Basic computer skills

Since IIT JAM has a paper on computer applications it requires you to focus on basic knowledge of computer and fundamentals of C language.
