Interested candidates can apply until September 28, 2026, at 5 PM. The institute offers PhD programmes across various disciplines, including Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Cognitive Sciences, Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Earth Sciences, Archaeological Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Integrated Circuit Design and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences, Maritime Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Design, and Physics. Eligibility criteria require candidates to have at least 55% marks or a 5.5 CPI in their postgraduate degree or a 4-year bachelor’s degree in relevant fields. For applicants from SC, ST, and PwD categories, the minimum requirement is reduced to 50% or 5.0 CPI. The institute may implement higher cutoff levels for shortlisting candidates.IIT Gandhinagar provides different admission categories, such as Regular and Continuing Doctoral Programme options. Regular PhD candidates engage in full-time, residential research. Conversely, the Continuing Doctoral Programme allows eligible individuals to join the PhD programme directly, with residency requirements based on coursework completion.
According to the notification, the application fee structure is as follows:
SC / ST / PwD Candidates: Rs.150
All Other Applicants: Rs.300
General & Other Categories: Candidates must have secured a minimum of 55% marks or a 5.5 Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) in a relevant postgraduate degree or an appropriate four-year bachelor’s degree programme.
Relaxation for Reserved Categories: SC, ST, and PwD category candidates are eligible for relaxations as per government and institutional norms, requiring a minimum of 50% marks or a 5.0 CPI.
IIT Gandhinagar has noted that meeting the baseline institute-level criteria serves as the minimum eligibility threshold and does not automatically guarantee shortlisting or final admission. Individual departments may prescribe higher academic cut-offs or additional requirements, which applicants are advised to review carefully on the official institute website before completing their submissions.
