The official NIFT Cut Off 2027 will be released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the National Institute of Fashion Technology during the centralized seat allocation and counselling process, expected around May–June 2027.
Because NIFT cut-offs are published in the form of Common Merit Ranks (CMR) / Closing Ranks rather than raw test marks, understanding how ranks are derived and examining previous-year trends will give you a clear benchmark for target scores.
Top campuses and premier streams (like B.Des Fashion Design and Accessory Design) close at very competitive ranks.
Top Tier (Delhi, Mumbai): Closing Rank 1–150
Mid Tier (Bengaluru, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata): Closing Rank 150–900
Regional/Newer Campuses (Patna, Kannur, Kangra, Raebareli, Shillong, etc.): Closing Rank 900–2,000+
Total Number of Applicants: Higher applicant volume generally tightens closing ranks for top-choice campuses.
Difficulty Level: Paper difficulty shifts the average marks distribution across CAT and GAT.
Seat Intake: Changes to seat capacity or campus additions alter seat closing numbers.
Reservation Category: Separate rank cut-offs are published for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS, and PwD categories.
1.How much score maps to top ranks (Marks vs. Rank)?
While the paper difficulty varies each year, past composite score (out of 100) trends indicate:
75+ / 100: Top 150 ranks (High chance for Delhi / Mumbai)
65 – 74 / 100: Ranks 150 – 500 (Mid-to-top tier campuses)
55 – 64 / 100: Ranks 500 – 1,200 (Established campuses, varied branches)
45 – 54 / 100: Ranks 1,200 – 3,500 (Regional / Newer campuses)
2. How is the NIFT Cut Off published?
Ans.NIFT cut-offs are not released as raw marks. Instead, they are published by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and NIFT as Opening and Closing Ranks (Common Merit Rank / CMR and Category Rank) for each campus, course, and category across counselling rounds.
3. Can a high GAT score make up for a weak CAT score in B.Des?
Ans. Only partially. For B.Des, the Creative Ability Test (CAT) carries 50% of the total weightage, while the General Ability Test (GAT) carries 30%, and the Situation Test carries 20%. Because CAT holds half the total marks, a weak CAT performance is difficult to fully compensate for with GAT alone.
4. When will the official NIFT 2027 Cut Offs be released?
Ans. The official opening and closing ranks will be published round-by-round during the centralized seat allocation process on the counselling portal (nift.admissions.nic.in), expected between May and July 2027.
nift.admissions.nic.in
5. Does NIFT have a fixed minimum qualifying score?
Ans. No. NIFT does not declare a minimum passing or qualifying percentage. Admissions are merit-based: seat allotment depends on your relative rank compared to other candidates and the total seat availability in your preferred course and campus.
